The Palomino Blackwing 602
I’ve heard a lot of hype about the Palomino Blackwing 602 pencil, and I’ve been eager to try one. I wasn’t excited about dropping $20 on a box of untested woodcase pencils, though, so when Brad from JetPens offered to send me one to try out, I jumped at it.
The blue-ish gray, metallic finish with the gold stamped logo and the distinctive eraser design make for a good looking...

Moleskine ArtMart
The notebook manufacturer Moleskine has started a martketplace where artists can sell customized Moleskine notebooks. I was honored to get an invitation to be a founding contributor. Here is my page on the ArtMart. I’ve got two books up now with more to come.
A friend helped me make a video that gives a glimpse into the process of making one of the notebook covers. The base design is made...

The Horde
I doodled this in the sketchbook this morning. I planned on coloring it in Photoshop, but I thought that I might try out some of the watercolor paper that I bought at the Pearl Fine Art Supplies store closeout sale a while back. I scanned the line art and then printed it out on the watercolor paper. I was a little surprised at how well the black lines printed. They also worked well for painting...

Covered
I can’t stand to leave a notebook cover blank. It’s like marking my territory. It also works as a good canvas for trying out personal projects. I’ve been thinking of trying my hand at making comics, and this rough first attempt seemed like a good choice for covering a notebook that I bought for working on writing.
I printed out the line art on Staples inkjet label paper and...

Cruisin’
Riding the mean streets of the ATL. I’ve never been that interested in cars, but a ‘64 Buick Riviera is a pretty cool ride.
Here are some detail shots for inspection.

Alien Color Test
This is a color test for a recent CD project. The final pieces were tighter, and the design changed. I like the loose feel of this, though.

Pasty
I’m working on a type treatment for a friend’s band logo. I think that Staples Inkjet Shipping Labels might be my new favorite design tool.

Water Soluble Graphite Brushes
Here are some Photoshop brushes that I made from washing water over scribbles done with Prismacolor Water Soluble Graphite Pencils. With some angle, scattering, and opacity jitter set in the Brushes panel, they are good for building up smudgy textures.
The brushes can be downloaded here: cp_graphite_brushes.zip

Bloom
Spring would give Fall a good run for best time of year in Georgia if it wasn’t for the yellow blizzard of pollen.
